I've had to be the bearer of bad news twice before regarding our Guests of Honor, but this time we bring some of the worst news imaginable. Sometimes there are things in life far bigger than conventions, and this is one of those times:

With great sadness, Illumina Productions and the Midwest Media Expo must announce that due to her father's sudden passing, Jewel Staite is unable to attend the Expo. Thank you for your understanding at this difficult time.

We send all of our deepest condolences and best wishes to Jewel and her family, and I believe I speak on behalf of the Youmacon and Expo community.

Jon St. John Roast

Time to light the fires, cue the barbecue, and sing it like the Duke! Mr. Jon St. John has had this coming - and it's finally here! The famous voice actor (most well known for his roles as Big the Cat in Sonic the Hedgehog, and Professor Pac-Man) deserves to be knocked down a peg or two - and no one better to do it than some big guests who know him too well. It's Straight-Up Hot Dawg Time - and you wouldn't believe what lies in store for Jon - and the audience!

Announcement

Konami Composer Akira Yamaoka and Voice Actor Mary Elizabeth McGlynn are joining the Expo! They will be hosting panels, providing autographs and photos, but they will especially be performing with:

The Silent Hill Band - LIVE at the Expo! - www.mysilenthill.com/the-silent-hill-band/

Time is running out for the cheaper pre-registration rates! A pre-registration to the Midwest Media Expo includes events, concerts, autographs, etc. for the entire weekend. Where will the expo take place?

The Midwest Media Expo will be held at the 72 story Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center, in the heart of Downtown Detroit. Beginning at 2:00pm on Friday and lasting until Sunday evening, the Expo will take over the tallest hotel in the western hemisphere.

The GM Renaissance Center is not only the world headquarters of General Motors, but is also a 'city within a city', featuring an assortment of shops, restaurants, a police station, and even a movie theatre. Once you arrive at the convention, you will find that you don't need to leave.

What special guests of honor can I expect to see at the Media Expo?
Will there be an extra charge to meet them?

Since our first event in 2005, we have taken pride in only bringing fun and engaging guests to our events, rather then big names from 30 years ago, and we fully intend to continue with this philosophy. You can expect some of your favorite actors, artists, internet personalities, authors, musicians, and much more at the Midwest Media Expo. A few fan favorites from our other events may also turn up.

With so much to do how will I navigate it all?

We've got you covered. For the Midwest Media Expo our schedule will be divided into categories, or 'tracks' to help you navigate what you're interested in. Our online schedule will be available by desktop, laptop, netbook, tablet, smartphone, or tricorder.

Think of a 'Track' as a category for our events. Right now we have 6 Tracks: Film, Fandoms, Comics, Cosplay, Video Games, and Tabletop Games – each with their own guests and content. It is completely possible to have a wonderful weekend by simply building your schedule around one track or interest, a combination of 2 or 3, or the full schedule of all tracks. It's up to you.

What is the Midwest Media Expo?
Is this a Downtown Detroit Comic Con?

The Midwest Media Expo is a popular culture event similar to most Comic Conventions. Instead of focusing on only comics, the Midwest Media Expo is a celebration of all popular media, including: Animation, Television, Film, Literature, Video Games, Tabletop Gaming, Comics, and Internet Culture. The Midwest Media Expo will bring a unique all-ages blend of interactive events, celebrity guest panels, and live musical performances to Downtown Detroit.

In 2005 we created our first event, Youmacon, with the goal to produce a fan convention WE would want to attend. All of our events offer the very best in engaging special guests, interactive live events, free–to–play video game rooms, and high–quality fan created programming.

Ten years later, we expanded our vision to include the first Midwest Media Expo, which brought nearly 2,500 fans to the Renaissance Center to participate in our wide array of live events, special celebrity panels, tabletop and video gaming, and much more.

For the low admission price of either a one-day or a 3-day weekend pass, we offer our attendees admission to every one of our special events, the exhibitor hall, artist alley, special celebrity guest panels, musical events, and more!

Mark your calendar, because April 10 - 12 will be unlike any fan convention you've ever attended.
